Guiding leaders through reinvention in life and business.

Dr. Amy Taylor-Bianco is the founder of Peak Reinvention and a tenured professor of management at Ohio University, with a PhD in organizational psychology from Columbia. For more than 25 years she has worked at the intersection of business psychology, leadership and systems change, and she has dedicated her life to teaching. She is an ICF-trained coach, and Peak Reinvention is her practice for leaders ready for their next climb.

About

Amy has reinvented herself many times, and it is a central part of her story and her strength. She worked in banking and international tax in New York, then reinvented herself again and went to Columbia for a PhD, though she had never studied psychology. She became the first woman in her college of business to have a baby on the tenure track, at a time when it simply was not done. Having lived reinvention herself, she has built the skills to guide others through it. “I couldn’t exist if I didn’t reinvent myself,” Amy says.

The record

The research, the classroom and the coaching complement each other.

Researcher

At Columbia she wrote her early papers with E. Tory Higgins, the psychologist known for regulatory focus theory, and earned her PhD in organizational psychology in 2000, with distinction. She studies how people manage their own motivation and behavior through change: why performance rises when a task fits the way someone already approaches it, how leaders keep some things steady while others move, and how gender and culture shape the teams that found new ventures.

Research and publications, with DOIs

and Professor

She is a tenured full professor of management in the College of Business at Ohio University, where she has taught since 2002. She is the founding director of its online Master of Science in Management, and teaches management and leadership. At Columbia she helped run a master’s program before building one of her own.

and Coach

She is a reinvention coach with International Coaching Federation (ICF) training. While at Columbia she worked with PepsiCo, Citicorp and the New York Public Library. She founded Peak Reinvention, her coaching practice.

My purpose is to make the invisible visible:

to see the capable, intricate person inside someone before the world has agreed they’re there, to bear witness to the worth that is already present before it can be named, and to make sure no one faces the hardest passages of a life alone.”

Speaking and media

Her research, with an audience.

An illustration of a bright hall with a tall window and a potted tree: a woman with long silver hair, in a green knit and dark trousers, stands facing a seated audience with her hands open as she speaks, while people of different ages listen and one takes notes.

Amy speaks with leadership teams, executive programs and conference audiences about leading people through reinvention: of themselves, their teams and their organizations. She works with leaders and organizations that are already good at what they do, and likes to help them stay ahead of the curve. Being ahead, she says, is “kind of an obsession.” She thinks best out loud, with other people, so a moderated conversation is the format she starts with.
